Maricopa County Jail

Visitor Policy

Interview with Tom

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
Tom: never in the tents except those in full custody but i am sure at Joe Arpaios orders the guards would always find a reason to cancel all visitation for something or another

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
Tom: some wives would wait in line for two or three hours for a thirty minute visit to be told the tents were on lockdown and no further explanation given and lost visitation never restored

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Tom: a room with about 20 booths with guards in every corner and some walking the floor, and never allowed to touch even arm or hand without reprisals

I'd been visiting my boyfriend @ Lower Buckeye for over 4 months, so I'm adroit w/ the Dress Code. Ironically enough, last Sunday, July 4th when we American's are celebrating our freedoms, I was "Banned" from visitation for 30 days. The dress code does NOT allow tank tops, and requires that breasts and cleavage to be covered. I had on 2 tank tops with a large, long sleeved snap front shirt. The code notes that "sweaters must be BUTTONED up", however, my shirt had snaps, not buttons. The DO told me I had to close it all the way up. During my visit, I had a hot-flash b/c I'm undergoing Chemo

Why is it that you can NOT visit an inmate that is in the work release program in tent city??? What purpose does that serve??? When I questioned this, the answer I got was "its policy". Where can I get a copy of these policies??

No Bob we don't expect the sheraton, but we do expect to be treated at least as good as the animals are treated, I didn't rape, steal, or hurt ANYBODY, in fact I wasn't even convicted, yet I like everybody else had to endure strip searches, spoiled, inedible food,( I was in jail two weeks, I went in weighing 107 lbs. and I came out weighing 98lbs.)Basically they try to break you down, The detention officers are little more than glorified security guards with power trips,(Obviously they were bullied in school)If a d.o. treats the inmates with any decency the higher-ups move the d.o. into a position where he/she has no contact with inmates. So the d.o.'s are forced to treat inmates like shit if they want to keep their position, but most of them love degrading and abusing inmates, and they take every opportunity to do just that. I can only pray that you, Bob, forget to pay a traffic ticket (or maybe in your case, yell obscenities at your mate, (yep, you can go to jail for that)because you know what Bob? you'll get the same treatment as somebody convicted of murder, then I'd like to hear how great you think sheriff Arpaio is!!! Somebody needs to knock you off of your soapbox onto your ignorant pompous ass

So true. Don't be to hard on the public. They don't know any better because Arpaio keeps all info about what is really going on out of the public eye. Most people only know what Arpaio tells them. Which we all know is lies. Somehow we need to get the true story out to the general public so people know the true story. I agreed with Arpaio myself until I got the inside story. Now that I know the truth I think he and his DO's will all burn in hell one day.

Some people end up in tent and they didn't even do anything to hurt anyone like smoking marijuana.

this isn't the actual jail site - just a place that shares info. call the jail up and ask them about exact visiting times for your inmate...
